While shield isn't listed he has 2 buffs that say "Hero dispels from Playful Darkness" when dispelled. I think one of those is a shield or something that grants him immunity to missiles because after dispelling that he is vulnerable to those.

In the Midnight Fane I didn't actually see a rift, but there was a new interactable spot inside Playful Darkness' bone pile that functioned the same way. It dropped a Belt of Physical Perfection +6, which feels like it could have been incorrectly placed instead of a Flawless Belt of Physical Perfection +8.
