OK, went to co-workers with a 2010 Impala LT and swapped his vent and purge valves to the 2008 to remove any doubt and still have the same issue erase codes, says 0 codes found after erasing, read again same P0449 code found. With battery cable disconnect I tried before, I can't see it being the OBD scanner at fault (it is fairly old).
