If you rip the throttle the rpms slowly rise, then the power band kicks in. But if you hold it for the rpms to get a little higher, a second power band seems to hit, where the bike takes off with power. Timing on a two stroke can be pretty critical and very different than a 4-st. My only experience was on a 4 cycl 500 and it wanted advanced timing off the pipe, then less advance as you get on the pipe. Even 1-2 deg made a difference.
